We have Miss Megan to thank for our family’s dancing journey so far.
It began in 2014 with a referral from one of our daughter’s friends. Our oldest daughter, Mia, started in grade one, followed later that year with our second daughter Sammy joining in, in her kindergarten year. The following year, our youngest daughter Rachel was old enough to join and we had our three girls all involved at Megan’s Dance Studio. To date we have had collectively 13 years of dance lessons and the girls are all looking forward to their classes starting again this year.
Our girls enjoy different activities and sports, to make for a busy schedule but dancing seems to be the favourite. There are many reasons why this activity is enjoyed by our family as a whole.
The song selection for the girls’ performances is successful on the levels of being age/skill appropriate, fun for the kids and enjoyable for the family viewing the performances. The Kids enjoy holiday activities, end of term performances, the friendships they make and the creative outlet they gain.
Their instructor, Miss Megan, has a great rapport with the dancers as well as families, she applies a great blend of discipline, encouragement and fun to the classes and has a genuine affection to the dancers, which is returned in full. Through the years we have noticed the growth in dancing and other gymnastic abilities, as well as their confidence to perform in front of a crowd.
As a parent apart from seeing the kids grow through the points above, we thoroughly enjoy the concerts, and two of the annual fixtures have become part of our family traditions. These are an excursion where the whole studio with some family members go to the theatre in the city for a live show, and a concert at the Lyrebird Community Christmas night. I must admit to having a soft spot for theatre and dance, but other members of our family and myself have had many happy tears whilst watching our girls perform.
